The Rev Dr Robert Cooke

Robert is an Anglican priest in the Diocese of Eastern Newfoundland and Labrador. He currently serves as the Dean of Theology, though he has served in many roles at the College, including lecturer, chaplain, and various coordinator roles. Robert served in the Parish of St. Mark the Evangelist in St. John’s, NL for 16 years, where he is still part of their Saturday community helping out with preaching and presiding when needed. He holds a PhD in Theology from GCAS College Dublin in the area of radical theology, hospitality, and ecclesiology, with a dissertation entitled “Radical Ecclesiology: Hospitality as Ecclesiology Without Ecclesiology.” He teaches courses in theological studies mostly, always with an emphasis on decolonization, creation care, and social justice. Robert’s area of interests includes radical theology (especially the work of John Caputo), continental philosophy, liberation theology, and the intersection between church, theology, digital technology, and culture. He also coordinates field education, the Supervised Parish Internship Program (SPIP), the Associate in Theology (ATh) Prorgam, and the College’s social media and communications. He lives in St. John’s with his wife Lorie and they have two adult daughters, Victoria and Hailey. In his spare time Robert likes to wander through the woods of Pippy Park communing with the trees, cooking up a feast for family and friends, and catering to every whim of a beagle named Miami and a cat named Trudy.
