Sr Elizabeth Davis

Elizabeth Davis is a member of the Congregation of the Sisters of Mercy of Newfoundland and Labrador. She has been engaged in education, health care administration, public policy, facilitation, and governance. She is one the fifty-four women who were voting delegates for the Catholic Synod on Synodality in Rome in October 2023 and 2024. Her interest in women as interpreters of Scripture is reflected in published articles in Handbook of Women Biblical Interpreters: A Historical and Biographical Guide edited by Marion Ann Taylor and Agnes Choi (entries for Catherine McAuley, Elizabeth Bowerman and Kathryn Lois Sullivan), Faith and Feminism in Nineteenth-Century Religious Communities edited by Michaela Sohn-Kronthaler and Ruth Albrecht (“’The Lord Has Given Me a Learned Tongue’ (Isa 50:4): Catherine McAuley Interprets Scripture with Authority and Intention”), and Recovering Nineteenth-Century Women Interpreters of the Bible edited by Christiana de Groot and Marion Ann Taylor (“Wisdom and Mercy Meet: Catherine McAuley’s Interpretation of Scripture”). She is a member of the Order of Canada and the Order of Newfoundland and Labrador.
