Dr. Robert Hurley

Biblical Studies

B.A., B.Ed.(MUN), B.Th. (St Paul University), M.A. (Ottawa), Ph.D.(McGill)

For some 27 years, Dr. Robert Hurley served as Professor of Biblical Studies and Catechetics at the Faculté de théologie et de sciences religieuses of Laval University. He taught undergraduate and graduate students in Biblical Studies (Pauline Literature, Synoptic Gospels, Prophetic and Apocalyptic Literature, Methods in Biblical Exegesis, Bible and Culture), as well as in Catechetics and Religious Education. Professor Hurley has published books and articles on reader-response criticism, narrative criticism, post-colonial criticism, political criticism and socio-historical criticism. Other published research examines the influence of the Bible on contemporary culture: the Bible and Literature (including children’s literature), the Bible and Film, the Bible and Art. He has a keen interest in Montessorian Catechetics including Godly Play, a Bible-centred approach to catechesis. Dr. Hurley directed Laval’s Doctor of Ministry Programme.
